RECLAIMING THE DISTILLING HERITAGE OF DONEGAL
RECLAIMING THE DISTILLING HERITAGE OF DONEGAL
The mountain of Sliabh Liag (phonetically: Slieve League) stands sentinel over County Donegal on Ireland’s wild Atlantic coast. Often described as “a place apart” this remote and beautiful land yields the terroir, heritage and folklore for a team of scatterlings to embark on an exciting distilling journey.
Our first Distillery, An Dúlamán Gin Distillery, sits to the west of Sliabh Liag where the Abhainn Bhuí (pronounced Owenwee and meaning yellow river) and Glen rivers meet and flow into Teelin Bay. The site of the new whiskey distillery (construction 2020-21) is further along the Wild Atlantic Way in the historic town of Ardara which overlooks the beautiful Loughrosmore Bay.
Rooted in the legends of Donegal, our spirits reflect the long distilling heritage of the Sliabh Liag peninsula, with liquids of the highest quality that capture the essence of this wild coastal land and its people.
Often Bígí Linn (be-igee linn) means “be with us” and one of the joys at Sliabh Liag Distillers is the generous support we have received from near and far. Building the new whiskey distillery is a huge undertaking and if you want to take your involvement further, there are a few ways that may interest you.
